*** This beautiful clownfish is classified as a Quasimodo (fish born with birth defects) due to his gill plates, which protrude out much wider than normal. This occurs during the morph stage, about 7-10 days after hatching. In the industry, no one knows exactly why this occurs but a very small percentage of fry develop it. It is not flared gill disease. It is a birth defect. They are supposed to be culled, but I do not agree with it if the fish is perfectly healthy and the defect does not interfere with its quality of life. Now, having the wide space between his gills will make him more susceptible to parasites and infection if the water quality of the tank is poor. As long as the tank perimeters are balanced he will live a long happy life. This clownfish must not be bred. The abnormality may be carried over to its offspring. By purchasing this clownfish, you must agree not to use him for breeding purposes as it will taint the quality of clownfish on the market. He is for personal enjoyment only. i.e for display tank.

In the breeding industry, all fish that are born with abnormalities are culled a.k.a. killed. When I first began the business of breeding african cichlids, I could not bring myself to kill a perfectly healthy fish for slight cosmetic imperfections. I adopted them to homes for little to no cost at all. Every one of them got adopted. I knew there were customers out there who would gladly care for them. And now that I breed clownfish, I see no reason to stop. And so I am offering these beautiful clownfish for very little cost to homes with big hearts. The imperfections will be listed under each clownfish along with pictures.

* All of our clownfish come with an adoption certificate.

  • Minimum tank size: 20 gallons
  • Maximum growth size: 4 inches
  • Foods we feed: Flakes, pellets, frozen cyclops, spirulina, occasionally brine shrimp. A variety is best for optimum health.
  • How often to feed: As an inhabitant in a display tank 1-2 twice a day will suffice. For an adult clownfish intent on breeding, feed 4-5 times a day in smaller portions.
  • Temperament: Peaceful if it does not have a mate. If you have a pair, they may fight each other if not bonded, or if they are bonded they will become aggressive if they are breeding. Some clownfish will guard an anemone and be aggressive towards anything that comes near it. Each individual fish is different and will behave according to their own personality.

Should your clownfish parish during travel, we will issue a store credit for the deceased fish. Shipping cost is not included in the credit, as services are rendered at the time of delivery. The customer must provide picture proof of the deceased fish within two hours of delivery in the unopened bag. If the fish is removed from the bag, the guarantee is voided. It is within our rights to request a return of the deceased fish if we deem necessary before a credit is issued (i.e. pictures are not clear or a discrepancy occurs). We only guarantee live arrival, as the tank environment and conditions of the customer are unknown. The customer must be home to accept the delivery on the designated delivery day or another person capable of receiving the fish and acclimating it. We will set up a delivery day prior to the shipment of the fish so the customer is prepared in advance.
